Adventures In Academia

I just wanted to share some exciting news!

My oldest son, whom I affectionately call Myxl Jr., is in his senior year of high school. He’s done extremely well academically, maintaining an unweighted GPA of 3.9 and a weighted GPA of 4.3 (with AP classes). Since Middle School he’s been involved in multiple extracurricular activities, some that have taken him all the way to Greece! He’s an amazing singer who currently has a single on iTunes. He’s an accomplished actor who’s been in multiple stage productions at his High School. He’s even volunteered at several charity events. Needless to say, he’s got a lot going for him and I’m EXTREMELY proud (if you couldn’t tell already)!

Anyway, over the holiday season, from about the end of October to mid-December 2012, he applied to nearly a dozen colleges, including Harvard, Stanford, St. Mary’s, USC, and a handful of UC schools. So far, we’ve heard from three…

He received an acceptance letter from St. Mary’s that included a full academic scholarship for the entire four years that amounts to nearly $100,000!

He also received an acceptance letter from USC with the terms of their scholarship offering coming in the next few weeks!

And finally… today, at approximately 3pm PST, his Harvard Admissions interview will take place! I cannot put into words how excited I am for him! He’s worked really hard in school over the years and now he’s really seeing the fruit of his labor. It is a wonderful thing to witness. And as his father, it’s what I’ve always wanted for him.
